Negrense tops 1st Oton darts open singles plum By Guillermo C. Tejida III
ROMMEL Pechera of the Association of Negros Darters and Dart Clubs-Baciwa salvaged the Negrense pride when he emerged as the lone Negrosanon darter to survive the 1st Oton Mayor’s Cup Open Dart Tournament, which spinned off Dec. 6 to 7 at the Sailor’s Den in Anhawan, Oton, Iloilo.
The Time-Out Darts Tournament mainstay went home P3,000 richer and a trophy on hand after bagging the plum in the open singles category.
But the hometown Ilonggo spinners shared among themselves the rest of the available laurels with singles runners-up Omay Nava, Henry Señeres, and Roger Arellano completing the bandwagon of individual open winners.
Also hogging the limelight, in the classified doubles category this time, were Iloilo City’s tandem of Jebb Alfuente and James Saballa who darted their way for the championship honors, and the P3,500 and a trophy on offer.
Nava again displayed his spinning skills when he joined
Elias Tabiosas for a first runner-up finish next to the Alfuente-Saballa duo, while Señeres plucked his second top award, with Kenneth Sina-on on the side, for the second runner-up slot.
Kalibo-bred Ernest Buenavidez and Edward Kapaw-an settled for the third runner-up spot.
The tournament, which staked a total of P15,000 in guaranteed prize, also doled out P2,500 plus trophy for the first runner-up in classified doubles; and P1,500 and P1,000 for the second and third runners-up, respectively.
The singles contest also apportioned P2,000 pot and trophy to the first runner-up; P1,000 for the second runner-up; and P500 for the third runner-up.
Also featured along with the darts tournament was the Local Skate Competition which offered trophies and certificates to the top three winners. GCT
