NBI steps up campaign against piracy By Avelyn Z. Agudon
THE NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation has stepped up operations against pirated video compact discs and VHS tapes in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City.
Lawyer Arturo Nunag, NBI-Bacolod local head, said their three-day operations in the cities of Bacolod, Bago and municipalities of Hinigaran and Valladolid, so far, yielded 5,000 VCDs and 2,000 VHS tapes.
Operations in the cities of Silay and Victorias last Tuesday, however, turned out negative.
Nunag said 10 ambulant vendors, most of them are from Mindanao, and owners of video stores will be charged for selling pirated VCDs and VHS tapes.
The operations started after they received an approval from VRB chairman Ramon “Bong” Revilla for them to conduct a massive campaign against pirated VCDs and VHS tapes.
Revilla’s approval gave authority to the NBI to confiscate pirated VCDs and VHS tapes and inspect video establishments as well as ambulant vendors to determine the compliance of P.D. 1987.
The NBI will not stop until all these pirated VCDs and VHS tapes are confiscated because this illegal practice affects the economy and the film and recording industry, Nunag said.
He said they will invite Revilla to come to Bacolod City next year to lead the destruction of the seized items. AZA
