Probers name suspect in Lozada slay By Robert L. Bacasong
PERSONAL grudge triggered Julio “Juling” Ibañez, of Sitio Malabong, Ilog into stabbing dead M/Sgt. Renato Lozada, tactical officer of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos’ Reserved Officers Training Corps, last Jan. 8 in Libertad, Bacolod City.
This was disclosed by Senior Insp. Hermilo Pacigado, chief of the Centralized Investigation Unit, who said that Ibañez is their principal suspect.
CIU’s initial investigation showed that Lozada had figured in a misunderstanding with the suspect inside Yolly’s Refreshment before the victim was stabbed outside the store at about 5 a.m.
Eduardo Villanueva, 38, a vendor at Libertad North Market, told the police he owns the 13-inch knife used by Ibañez in stabbing Lozada in the abdomen, both hands, and face.
The victim died on the spot.
Villanueva said he only learned of the incident from his daughter Chona, 16, who told him that Ibañez took his father’s knife without consent.
Villanueva added that when he went to the scene of the incident, he saw Lozada already lying dead on the ground, with half of the knife still stuck to his body.
CIU probers, however, said the suspect has gone at large along with the two other suspects.
Lozada, 49, is formerly residing at Road 2, Fuentebella Subd., Barangay Taculing.
He will be interred on Jan. 16 at the Ma-ao public cemetery in Bago City. RLB
