Marañon not daunted by hit squad target report By Avelyn Z. Agudon
GOVERNOR Joseph Marañon is not daunted by his reported inclusion in the communist hitlist, saying it is a hazard in his profession.
I find no reason why my name is included because I have been performing my job, said Marañon.
He added reports on the deployment of the hit squad heightens when election is near.
“The armed struggle has been going on for a long time. Naga- ibwal lang na kung lapit na ang election,” the governor said.
Marañon also reiterated his call for the local Communist Party of the Philippines - New People’s Army for a dialogue.
“Let us give peace a chance. Let us work together because I have been transparent with all my actions,” he said.
The alleged deployment of the communist hit squad came in the wake of the warning issued by Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal, spokesman of the Communist Party of the Philippines.
Those who are target for liquidation are what the CPP calls as “traitors of the revolution.”
They include sugar planters, government, military, police and top-ranking officials of the Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa - Pilipinas and its armed wing, Revolutionary Proletarian Army - Alex Boncayao Brigade.
The Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police have intensified intelligence monitoring to hunt down the members of the hit squad who were reportedly deployed in Negros Occidental./AZA
