Woman arrested in illegal drug bust By Claudine C. Dumalag
A WOMAN in Cadiz City was apprehended while her husband escaped arrest in a drug raid at 6 a.m. in Hitalon, Barangay Zone 4.
Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Rolando Ramirez of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities, Chief Insp. Leo Irwin Agpangan, city police chief, led the team, which collared Hemelina Arquillo.
Her husband, Jerry, was not around during the search.
Agpangan said they conducted surveillance on the couple for three weeks following reports that they have been selling suspected shabu since December last year.
They reportedly get their supply from a Mindanao-based courier, said the police who recovered from the woman 14 plastic sachets of suspected shabu, and P11,000 cash believed to be proceeds of the illegal trade.
Agpangan, however, said they released her after a few hours of detention, as she is not the subject of the search.
“The husband is now at large. We will just wait for the warrant of arrest from the court to arrest the suspect,” said Agpangan.
Two weeks ago, a couple from Hinigaran town and their three couriers, were arrested by the joint operatives of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Task Force and Intelligence Division of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office at 8:30 p.m. in Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran.
The raiding team, armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Rolando Balgos of the Himamaylan Municipal Trial Circuit Court, arrested the alleged drug peddler-couple identified as Hermino Sevilla, alias “Milo” and wife Gemma, alias “Daday” and their three couriers - Danilo Donesa, Mario Toskano, and Angelito Remtere, all residents of the same village.
Police recovered two elongated plastic sachets containing suspected shabu weighing .82 grams, two small sachets of the same substance, two transparent sachets with shabu traces, 11 live ammunition for a .22 caliber pistol, six transparent plastic packets for shabu packaging, improvised bamboo clip, four aluminum foils, one improvised tooter, five improvised scoops for shabu repacking, three disposable lighters, one Nokia 6210, and P3,210 cash.
Police said that they have been selling shabu in the town for two years alreadyand they get their supply in Bacolod City.
