Transport groups mull protest vs colorum, fake franchises By Christine Mae Pelayo
TRANSPORT groups in Barangays Handumanan and Punta Taytay plan to stage a rally to dramatize their protest against colorum operations and public utility vehicles plying the city streets with fake franchises.
Councilor Greg Gasataya, chairman of the City Council committee on transportation and communication, said the Bacolod Traffic Authority (BTA) has already informed Mayor Luzviminda Valdez of the groups’ plan to hold the rally should the city government still fail to put a stop on the illegal operations.
The members of the City Enforcement Unit through the Task Force Tawhay Dalan has been tasked to check the PUJs’ franchises and city stickers.
Gasataya disclosed that 15 to 20 percent of vehicles with fake franchises are operating in Bacolod City.
“The city now plans to implement the work of the task force next week to check on the vehicles’ franchises,” said Gasataya.
Earlier, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) disclosed the names of four fixers selling fake franchises.
LTFRB chairman Dante Lantin, who held a dialogue with the drivers and operators regarding their franchises, has ordered the banning of the fixers.
The drivers and operators mentioned the names of Lina Acupan, Jessica Canlas, Nancy Guanzon and Den Calibot as the alleged fixers who sell illegal fake franchises.
All of them are not associated with the LTFRB.
