NBI-Manila to help in prosecution of cases
By Avelyn Z. Agudon

PERSONNEL of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Manila will help prosecute and convict the owners of the controversial investment firms in Negros Occidental.

Lawyer Jesusa Jamasali headed the five investigators who met Friday with the complainants against the firms - MMG International Holdings Co., Ltd., Tibayan Group Investment Co. Inc., and Prime Gold Management Corp.

An estimate of 300 of complainants had already filed charges of large scale estafa and violations of the Bouncing Checks Law against 13 local and national officials of MMG; six officials of Prime Gold; and 15 officials of Tibayan, before the City Prosecutor’s Office.

Most of them are retirees, retrenched employees, and Overseas Contract Workers.

Before meeting the complainants, these investigators coordinated with Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella after the solon asked the NBI to include Bacolod in their investigation on ponzi scheme.

Jamasali said that their investigation is their answer to the victims’ request from President Arroyo to help them.

The victims, in their letter to the President dated March 27, asked Arroyo’s valuable support in their plight in all ways.

They added that in Negros Occidental alone, their total investment in MMG and Tibayan involves P110 million.

The complainants also said although they have already filed charges against the investment firms, they also wanted to ensure that swift justice be given to them.

They also hope to recover what they have lost.
