City scholar complains of Peso’s non-payment of fees
By Christine Mae Pelayo

A CITY scholar forwarded a complaint against the Public Employment Services Office (Peso) for alleged failure to pay her tuition and allowance.

Richlyn Sarroza, who studies at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, in her letter to Mayor Luzviminda Valdez, said she is supposed to receive P3,500 for her tuition and P3,200 for allowance.

However, she claimed that the Peso has not given her a single centavo for her allowance which caused her overdue account to the university to accumulate.

Sarroza said she has an accumulated overdue account of more than P9,000 to the school.

She also said the city pays its counterpart to the university, but it is always delayed which oftentimes cause fear among scholars that they could not take the examinations.

Sarroza added that the scholars still have to talk to their professors and beg that they be allowed to take the exams.

For four semesters, Sarroza said she is supposed to receive P12,800.

She has also made an appeal to the Peso management regarding her unpaid accounts, to no avail.

The scholar also said that the management told her not to expect that she will receive her allowance.

She quoted them as saying, “Don’t count your past accounts.”

“Correct me if I’m wrong but this makes me imply that I may never get my allowance. I am much in need of the money for my enrolment,” Sarroza said in her letter.

On the other hand, Live Vera, Peso chairman, said the city has no fund for the scholars’ allowance.

The city has a total of 190 Peso scholars this year.
