Dismissal proceedings vs cop linked to illegal gambling on
By Claudine C. Dumalag

NEGROS Occidental Provincial Police Director Vicente Ponteras said Western Visayas Regional Police Director Marcelo Navarro Jr. has ordered the conduct of summary dismissal proceedings against SPO3 Mario Hechanova for the latter’s alleged involvement in illegal gambling in Cadiz City.

The proceedings will be conducted at the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo) in Camingawan, Bacolod City.

Ponteras said the pre-charge investigation against Hechanova is still ongoing while the police-suspect’s relief order will come shortly.

Hechanova, a member of the Kabankalan City police, was slapped with criminal and administrative charges after the raid in his house in Barangay Villacin I, Cadiz City two weeks ago.

The raiding team led by Chief Insp. Leo Irwin Agpangan, Cadiz police chief, recovered several gambling paraphernalia and P930 cash.

Judge Rolando Ramirez of the Cadiz Municipal Circuit Trial Court (MTCC) signed the search warrant against Hechanova.

Hechanova has been placed under surveillance as he was linked to illegal gambling operations, specifically daily double and masiao, in Cadiz.

Ponteras said Navarro told him that it is “awkward for a police officer to be involved in illegal activities.”

However, Hechanova denied the accusations against him adding that the items recovered in his house were only "planted."
