Silay’s No. 1 drug pusher arrested
By Claudine C. Dumalag

OPERATIVES of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Task Force (Paitf) and the Silay City police Tuesday arrested the city’s alleged No. 1 drug courier.

Negros Occidental Provincial Police Director Vicente Ponterassaid suspect Renato Cortilla, 48, of Zone 7, Barangay Mambulac, was apprehended at 2 a.m. in a raid inside his house by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Reynaldo Alon of the Silay City Regional Trial Cour (RTC)t.

Police recovered a cellphone, an improvised tooter, 67 sticks of suspected marijuana, dried marijuana leaves, several plastic sachets used for repacking suspected shabu, and P3,100 cash believed to be proceeds of the illegal trade.

Paitf chief Calixto Mabugat said the suspect could have already disposed more volumes of shabu prior to the raid.

Senior Superintendent Ponteras said Cortilla’s apprehension will affect other drug pushers’ operations in the city.

“Maybe, they are now thinking of the No. 1 having already been neutralized,” said Ponteras.

The raid will also serve as a warning to other drug couriers who are included in their watchlist, he added.

Cortilla is now detained at the Silay City police station.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act are readied against the suspect.
