THE United Referees Association of Negros (Uran) will hold its first convention on Aug. 1 to 3 at the Laura Beach Resort, in Cadiz City.
Uran president Rolando “Jack” Marañon said the organization aims to unite and help uplift the competitiveness of basketball referees.
Through the conference, the group would relearn the basics of proper officiating and provide employment to the jobless through refereeing.
According to Marañon, more than 200 Uran members all over Negros Occidental are expected to participate in the three-day seminar.
He disclosed that the participants will undergo training and comprehensive examination during the last day of the assembly.
He said on the first day of the activity, an orientation of all Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons, coaches and referees regarding the changes in the basketball officiating course will be held.
A basketball game will be played on the second day.
Marañon added that the SK Federation of Cadiz City headed by Ma. Corazon Demonteverde endorsed the convention.
He also said that Cadiz City Vice Mayor Leo Roberto Gustilo, concurrent chairman of the Cadiz City Sports Council, and George Acot, former BAP-Barecom Commissioner, will be the guests of honors during the convention.
The various Uran coordinators are Angelito Suarez for District I; Rommel Balandra, District II; Fabiano Lacson, District III; Eugene Aunzo, District IV; Romulo Verde for Districts V and VI; Ferdinand Odango, RBA; Donnie Parraren, Bacolod-A; and Giovanni Braña, Bacolod-B.
