ORIENTAL martial arts unfold in its fullest as the Filipino Tang Soo Do plays host to the Tang Soo Do full contact karate competition this Sunday at the Po Hang Gym of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS).
Skirmishes start at 1 p.m. and will be until 6 p.m.
The Filipino Tang Soo Do, headed by Elmer Montoyo, Sr., will host the tournament bankrolled by the BTTHS Class ’83 in cooperation with Junie’s, Margarette Detergent Bar, Merci Bakeshop, ABS-CBN, and Red Bull Supreme.
Montoyo disclosed that the competition is open to all jins of interested martial arts clubs and organizations in the city and the entire Negros Occidental.
He, however, said only players who are either red belters and with a lower grade are allowed to join the event.
“Black belters and regional players are not allowed to join the tournament,” said Montoyo.
He further said that the competition will have two categories: the secondary and tertiary levels, respectively.
In the secondary level, only players aged 13-17 years old are allowed to compete.
On the other hand, only players aged 18-23 years old are allowed to combat in the tertiary level.
Several weight categories will be disputed in both divisions, organizers disclosed.

Also slated this month is the karatedo tournament hosted by the Bacolod City Enthusiasts of Karatedo Organization which will hold a special sports activity on July 27 at the Bays Center.
The tournament is being spearheaded by Baceco and is being sponsored by Dr. Jed de Leon.
The competition will showcase various martial arts champions, not only in the province but all throughout the country.
Organizers bared the tournament aims to prepare athletes for future competitions and to help the government in its campaign against the proliferation of the illegal drug menace.
Proceeds of the tournament will go to the charity programs of the Department of Internal Medicine of the Bacolod Sanitarium and Hospital (BSH).
