LTFRB hasn’t junked fare hike bid - Undoc
By Christine Mae A. Pelayo

THE Pinagkaisahang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (Piston) has not yet received a copy of the decision of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) rejecting its petition for a fare increase.

Secretary-General Jessie Ortega of the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (Undoc), said this is contrary to media reports.

Reports indicated that the transportation board junked the petition for a P1.50 fare increase filed by the four jeepney associations in the country including Piston, Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Fedjodap) and Pasang Masda.

The transport groups petitioned for a P1.50 increase in fare from P4 to P5.50.

But LTFRB chairman Dante Lantin said “increasing the jeepney fare would certainly have a ‘domino effect’ on everything related to transportation, including wages and the prices of commodities.”

Lantin reportedly also said the LTFRB is sensitive to problems currently faced by the transport groups. The government, he added, is addressing the problems.

Ortega, on the other hand, said it was Fedjodap’s petition for a rate increase, which the LTFRB junked. As for Undoc, he said: “We have not received a communication from Piston yet. We have no opinion on the decision of the LTFRB.”

Ortega also said they will not participate in Fedjodap’s call to stage a rally soon to dramatize their protest against LTFRB’s order.

“We will not join their call because Piston has not called for a protest rally yet. Fedjodap does not have any affiliate in Bacolod City and Iloilo City,” said Ortega.
