Regional police probes 18 cops’ link to Cuadra
By Claudine C. Dumalag

AMONG the 18 policemen in Western Visayas who allegedly protect jailed big-time suspected drug lord, Jose Kim “Boy” Cuadra, are members of the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo) and the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

This was disclosed Senior Supt. Felix Muchada, deputy regional police director for administration.

However, Muchada reiterated they still have to verify and validate the intelligence report linking these policemen to Cuadra’s illegal trade.

He added though that the names of the policemen will be released soon.

Muchada also said Negros Occcidental Provincial Police Director Vicente Ponteras and Bacolod City Police Director George Bajelot were furnished copies of the intelligence report.

Muchada’s declaration that among the 18 policemen are from the BCPO contradicts Senior Superintendent Bajelot’s earlier statement that among those suspected scalawags, none are from Bacolod.

On the other hand, Senior Superintendent Ponteras earlier challenged Muchada to disclose the police-protectors, saying that the latter’s pronouncement “is serious and too general.”

Muchada said they are investigating policemen who have connections not only with the Cuadra group, but also with the five other syndicated illegal drug groups in the region.

Reports reaching the regional police office earlier indicated that two of these five drug syndicates use Bacolod as their base of operations.
