Caltex bags Ybac title; drafting of members set
CARLOS Centeno scored only two points but he made sure his team Caltex-LPG win a title by leading the Gasmakers to an 89-78 victory over LG in Game Two of the Your Basketball Athletic Club (Ybac)-Agot Soberano Cup sponsored by LG at Manville Royalle Gym.
Caltex won Game One of the best-of-three series, 114-95 and gifted team manager Centeno its first championship title since joining the club several years ago.
Val Resuma scored 29, Embo Cañete added 20, Pangyao Decierdo 14 and Tony Valiente 11 for the winners.
LG got 32 from Roy Dionela, Rene Villacanas’ 18 and Joenel Anico’s 12 in their losing effort.
Delo Gold, meanwhile, salvaged third with an 80-79 triumph over AC Parts, whose philosophy was to place last in the standing but pick first on the draft.
The drafting of new members is set Friday at the Manville Gym after the regular practice.
Future Ybac players who will be picked are former varsitarians Macoy Odango, Roger Jaype, Bandoy Aliermo, Boyet Ello, Ricky Morales, Sunny Tankit, James Jaruda and Nicolas Bayon.
Picking first is AC Parts, then Delo Gold, LG and Caltex.
Trading of players maybe allowed provided both teams are amenable to the trade, according to club secretary Jorge de los Reyes and tournament chairman Denis Adon.
The second conference of the LG-sponsored tournament reels off October 3.
Bareg will still cover the games scheduled to end by November to precede the formal induction of Ybac officers and its Christmas party in a joint year-end affair, says Ybac president Jun Ballesteros.
