Charges readied v. 9 drug suspects
By Roberto L. Bacasong

NINE drug suspects are now facing illegal drug charges after they were separately arrested last Thursday and Friday in Puroks Sigay and Kagaykay, Barangay 2, tagged as the "shabu country" of the city.

Joint operatives of Police Station 2 and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) headed by Insp. Joemarie Occeño, PDEA provincial chief and Senior Police Officer 2 Freddie Natividad, respectively, conducted the buy-bust and stakeout operations.

Four of the nine suspects were identified as Antonio Uy, 23 and Milagros Abrenda, 19, both of Purok Kagaykay, Barangay 2; Jison Niñal, 19, of Barangay Oringay, Kabankalan City; and Dave Selarda, 23, of Rizal St., Iloilo City.

Natividad arrested them in a buy-bust operation 3 a.m. Thursday in Purok Kagaykay.

Recovered from them were 11 elongated sachets of suspected shabu and three small sachets containing the banned substance.

On the other hand, Natividad also collared three persons in a pot session in Purok Sigay.

They were identified as Michael Mercias, 23, of Purok Cumeta, Barangay 17; John Escopel, 20, of Libertad Extension; and Raymund Casuyo, 25, of Purok Mahirup, Barangay Mandalagan, all in Bacolod.

Confiscated from them were two disposable lighters and two aluminum foils with traces of suspected shabu.

On the other hand, Occeño apprehended Davis Esquilla, 59, and Nelson Sapatose, 22, both of Purok Sigay, Barangay 2.

Confiscated from them were three elongated sachets of suspected shabu and P1,000 in marked money.

Occeño said Sapatose served as Esquilla's "runner". He added they placed the suspect under a three-week surveillance.

All the nine suspects are presently detained at the lock-up cell of Police Station 2.
