I’ll think it over, Lozada says on senatorial offer By Avelyn Z. Agudon
“I’ll think it over,” said 5th District Rep. Jose Apolinario Lozada, on if his name would be included in the senatorial list of the Lakas-Christian and Muslim Democrats for the 2004 presidential elections.
Lozada said he would leave the matter to his political party, which has President Arroyo as standard bearer for the 2004 presidential elections.
“It is up for them to decide if they pick me or not but I will think it over,” Lozada said.
The President's brother-in-law, Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo, earlier said the party will support Lozada if he runs for the Senate.
Both Iggy and Lozada were earlier reported to be planning to run against each other in the fifth congressional district.
Lozada kept mum on Iggy’s pronouncement that he would be running for congressman in the 5th district.
“Let him. It is too early,” said Lozada.
If Lozada decides to seek re-election, Iggy said he might just have to join local political party United Negros Alliance.
Gov. Joseph Marañon earlier confirmed that negotiations are on for a coalition between Lakas-CMD and UNA after five governors in Western Visayas except him supported the President’s plan to run in next year’s presidential election.
Marañon said he could not decide on it because the party is still waiting for business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco to announce his 2004 plans.
