NPC lawmaker hits Drilon on cha-cha stand By Avelyn Z. Agudon
TALISAY CITY — Be open minded, advised Tarlac Rep. Gilbert Teodoro to Senate President Franklin Drilon who is opposing a charter change through constitutional assembly.
Teodoro, who was a guest speaker representing businessman Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco in the University of the Philippines-Los Baños Annual Alumni Homecoming and 47th Loyalty Day Celebration Sunday, said 187 congressmen already signed a resolution pushing for charter change.
However, it could not push through because of the Senate’s position favoring Cha-Cha only through constitutional convention.
“We appeal to those who are opposing to be open minded,” said Teodoro.
He also believes that despite the opposition, a charter change through constitutional assembly will still push through before next year’s presidential elections.
Teodoro added if their move will be ratified early next year there will be a transition on the different system of government.
“It will be a smaller government definitely, parliamentary,” he said.
Teodoro though believes the presidential elections next year will push through because political tension is already high.
“Definitely we are against a no election,” he said.
