1 more die in Ceres-truck collision

ONE OF the passengers of a Canter mini-truck which figured in a head-on collision with a Ceres bus Tuesday along the National Highway in Barangay Burgos, Cadiz City died, mounting the fatalities in the mishap to two.

The victim, Jose Gepana, 32, died around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday night, hours after treatment at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

The other fatality was the Canter’s driver, identified as Leonilo Bermeo, 37, of Barangay Tinampaan. Cadiz died on the spot.

Aside from Gepana, also severely injured was Jose Basañez who is now being treated at the same hospital in Bacolod.

Chief Insp. Edgardo Ordaniel, Cadiz chief of police, said the bus driven by Bienvenido Cañete was heading toward northern Negros while the Canter truck was bound for Bacolod.

Investigation disclosed the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle when its driver failed to notice the speeding truck.

Cañete suffered only minor injuries. He is now detained at the lock-up cell of the Cadiz police station.

Those who were injured in the mishap were identified as Helen Luceño, Florenda Tolente, Maria Abico, Gabby Galigani, Ericson Ramos, Rogenette Ramos, Eleuteria Libre, Jason Galano, Cerio Duran, Antonietta Alegato, Claudine Delgado Jr., Claudine Delgado Sr., Jun-Jun Cañete, Cielo Sembrano, Hermie Baroga, Rene Lapinig, Emiliano Lapinig, Boyet Belmo, and Joel Tapang.

The victims were immediately brought to Saint Anne’s Hospital in Cadiz.

In Bago City

In another report, a 15-year-old househelp is now being treated at the CLMMRH after a La Carlota-bound SDL mini bus accidentally hit her Tuesday while she was crossing the pedestrian lane at 1 p.m. along the National Highway in Barangay Taloc, Bago City.

The victim suffered several contusions in the different parts of her body.

The victim, whose name is being withheld by Sun.Star Bacolod, is a resident of Toboso.

Police, on the other hand, identified the suspect as Robinson Nabor, of Rizal St., La Carlota City.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the Bago police station.
