Declogging of waterways heightened against floodings

TO PREVENT further floodings in the city, all barangays are enjoined to campaign against the dumping of garbage in creeks and rivers.

Mayor Luzviminda Valdez said a dredging project will be implemented in two major rivers in barangays Mandalagan and Sum-ag.

The dredging, to cost P2.5 million each, will be sourced from Sen. Sergio Osmeña’s P5 million assistance for the city’s dredging project.

The budget, under the senator’s Project Development Fund of 2002, will help deepen the rivers to prevent soil erosion, said Valdez.

Valdez also said the City Engineer’s Office Maintenance Division continuously conducts declogging activities in the drainages of public markets and urban poor villages.

The declogging project is part of the city’s campaign to avoid floodings during rainy days, added Valdez.
