No miracle, vet says on deformed piglet By Avelyn Z. Agudon
NO MIRACLE.
A bacterial disease, not any extraordinary phenomenon, caused the facial deformity of a piglet that survived for only a day in Talisay City, said Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian.
Decena told Sun.Star the case of Kikay, a piglet born to Nina, the sow of the Antonares family in Barangay Zone 5, Talisay, is not new because many hog raisers in commercial farms also experienced similar circumstances.
He said some of the piglets were even born without rectum while others have deformed faces and died a few days after they were born.
Kikay died last Oct. 30, a day after she was born among a brood of 14.
The unusual piglet became the talk of the town as it was born with a deformed face making her unique from her other siblings. Her nose was located on top of her head.
She looked like a monkey and was treated like a human being by the Antonares family.
Delia Antonares, owner of Nita, even fed her formula milk.
When she died she was placed in a white casket surrounded by fresh flowers and candles.
