Vendor beheads notorious ‘robber’, surrenders
By Claudine C. Dumalag

A TRANSIENT vendor cut the head of an alleged notorious robber for his alleged failure to pay 10 bottles of beer at 9 p.m. Sunday in Sitio Alasu-as, Barangay Bi-ao, Binalbagan some 20 kilometers away from the town center.

Police investigator PO3 Joey Resuma identified the victim as Felicito Carpio, alias “Feling”, 28, of Sitio Airen, Barangay Ampanangon, Jimalalud, Negros Oriental, who temporarily resides in Barangay Bia-ao.

Investigation disclosed Carpio and the suspect, Walberto Patoc, alias “Alboy”, 22, of Sitio Mambunga, Barangay Santol, Binalbagan figured in a heated altercation when the victim asked for a change of the P500 he paid for the bottles of beer he consumed.

The suspect, however, insisted Carpio has not yet paid him any single centavo for the beer.

Minutes later, investigation added, Carpio pointed his .357 caliber revolver at the suspect prompting both to grapple for the firearm.

The suspect told the police he first stabbed Carpio on the chest twice. Carpio fought back and stabbed him on the right leg. In the end, he overpowered the victim and severed the victim’s head using a 14-inch bolo.

Patoc said he placed Carpio’s cut head inside a sack and brought it to the residence of one of their village councilmen.

The suspect then brought the head to the police station.

Patoc said he took the head away from Carpio’s body as he believes that, otherwise, he will live again and take revenge.

The suspect said Carpio possesses an amulet locally known as “anting-anting.”

Police records showed Carpio has a standing warrant of arrest for murder in Cauayan and has a string of robbery cases in Binalbagan targeting cattle traders.

Patoc, on the other hand, is now detained at the lock-up cell of Binalbagan police station.
