Weng leaves NegOcc unscathed
By Avelyn Z. Agudon

EVEN if tropical storm "Weng" already left the province Friday, residents living in low-lying areas are still advised to take precautionary measures against flashfloods and landslides.

Vicfran Defante, PDMT action officer, said the tropical storm left Negros Occidental without damage, unlike the previous typhoon "Ursula" which hit the province late last month and damaged P87 million worth of infrastructure and agricultural products.

Signal No. 1 was hoisted Thursday in Negros Occidental and other parts of central and southern Philippines.

"Weng", with international name, Nepartak, is estimated at 290 kilometers west northwest of Coron, Palawan Saturday, with strongest sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour.

Weng is expected to be over the South China Sea on Sunday.

Meanwhile, public storm signal No.1 is in effect in Mindoro Provinces, Western Masbate, Marinduque, Burias Island, Batangas, Lubang Island and the rest of northern Palawan.

Signal No.2, on the other hand, is in effect over Aklan and northern Antique, Romblon, southern Mindoro, Calamian Group of Islands and Cuyo Island.
