Galunan: From the sentiments of a mentor By Jerome S. Galunan, Jr. Insider
IT'S the dream of an instructor to bring victory to his student. However, it's the student's choice how to attain such achievement.
Last Thursday, my team's quest to gain a golden accomplishment fell flat as we lost to our 4th District rivals.
I felt disappointed over the outcome of the game, but what can I do? It's over!
Only one of my students advanced to the next level of competition - the Provincial Meet.
As a former protagonist of this sports (badminton), I did my best to impart to my players all the things I know - waking up early in the morning to start the usual practice: jogging, stretching, so on and so forth.
I shared to them my experiences as a badminton achiever, but sad to say, not all responded well. Only a few did.
During the first day of training, I didn't know where to start, but later I decided to begin at square one.
I had to rush and cope with the training schedules. I asked them to cooperate with me but others refused - not in words but in actions.
I was very frustrated, but because I was determined to lift them to the next level of competitiveness, I pursued.
I asked my compatriot to help me and even challenged them by making my former comrades as examples of my intentions.
But they haven't realized my goals for them, until they experienced their loss.
It was too late for them, but I have no regrets because they have awakened from that deep sleep and learned from their mistakes.
Yes, I could blame the short period of training to have caused such failure.
But who really is to blame for this? That's the question I have for those who are concerned.
In general, my 10-day training was successful especially because of our very supportive team manager, Dr. Jorge Camposano.
Despite the hardships I encountered during those times, I remained very dedicated because I got all that I needed for the training. Only a text away!
He stood behind us, right from the very start until the game was through.
Thank you, Sir, for your unfailing willingness to support the team. More power!
