Bizmen hesitant to join TF on lifestyle check By Christine Mae A. Pelayo
MAYOR Luzviminda Valdez said the local business sector is hesitant to be part of the task force that will conduct a lifestyle check on all government officials and employees.
She, however, refused to disclose details although, she said she finds it hard to convince the business sector to join the task force.
Last August, Valdez said a lifestyle check will be conducted by a task force to be composed of Representatives from the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bacolod Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indian businessmen, the Catholic Church, Protestant Church, Muslim Community, Iglesia ni Cristo, Gabriela, non-government organizations and people's organizations.
Valdez said she will finalize an executive order creating the task force and distribute the order to various departments after she shall have convened it.
She added that the religious sector needs to be briefed on the parameters regarding the conduct of the lifestyle check.
Not in favor
However, Councilor Archie Baribar earlier said he is not in favor of Valdez's plan to allow the private sector to check on the lifestyle of public officials.
He said the mayor may make use of the task force to "witchhunt" against her political opponents.
Baribar suggested that Valdez ask investigators from national government agencies to come over the city to do the checking.
