Galunan: Reflexes By Jerome S. Galunan, Jr. Insider
AFTER writing a column asking for support to gear up badminton to be one of the top-rated indoor sports in the province, I managed to tap one.
During my short stint as the mentor of the Bago City Badminton Team, I met a guy who backed us up all through out the 10-day training.
He provided us the facilities and equipment we needed in the training and even during the competition.
At first, I was hesitant to approach this person and ask for the team's needs, but because I really needed to lift the competitiveness of my players, I pursued.
When he asked me what I really needed, I laid down the cards. Without further question, he agreed and didn't take long to help us. That afternoon, we acquired what I earlier requested.
Although many people become more attracted and encouraged to engage in this discipline, only a few are interested to support the endeavor.
One of them is El Viento Beach Resort proprietor Jorge Araneta Camposano, the team manager of the Bago City Badminton Team for secondary level that saw action in the Area IV Meet held in Pontevedra.
As team manager, he gave several rackets and offered other facilities to the team to further develop the competitiveness of the players.
He further expressed interest of building a club in the city to continue the development program of the young and keep them away from vices.
Another is Ceferino Regalado, a businessman and a volunteer trainor of the Bago City Badminton Team for Elementary level.
According to this fellow, Bague¤os are more likely to excel because the endeavor does not pose height standards.
Ceff said that he is also willing to establish an organization to train young shuttlers.
If we could only have people in our province with such interest to this game, it would not be far from now that we could also send highly competitive feather artists to compete, not only in national tournaments, but also in international arenas.
