LTFRB welcomes opening of new routes By Christine Mae A. Pelayo
THE Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Regional Office issued a corollary memorandum order approving the opening of three developmental routes in Bacolod City.
Before they could finally open the new routes though, the LTFRB will still wait for the final decision on the matter of the Bacolod Traffic Authority (BTA) and Councilor Greg Gasataya, chairman of the committee on transportation.
Porfirio Clavel, LTFRB regional director, said the BTA and Gasataya will still refer it to the Development Routes Task Force.
Gasataya added he will request a special meeting with BTA next week about the opening of the new routes which are: Barangay Cabug to Lopue's East - Bangga Tomaro to Circumferential Road; Brgy. Bata to Burgos Street -- Lopue's East; and Bangga Pepsi to Reclamation Area.
The councilor disclosed the task force met only twice since its creation.
"The city mayor (Mayor Luzviminda Valdez) created the task force but there was no quorum because its members were not interested on the matter," said Gasataya.
He added whatever their decision is, they will inform the City Council about it, but only after the BTA and the transport groups have come up with a common stand.
Oppositions
Gasataya also said he expects strong opposition from affected transportation sectors regarding the opening of the new routes.
"At this point, it is not a matter of life and death because there are things we need to solve first such as the fake franchises," he said.
Gasataya added they need to further study the implementation of the new routes, especially on its impact on existing transport conveniences.
But Clavel said he is not anticipating opposition since all requirements for the order have been complied with.
