Prov'l coop day set in Sagay

CLOSE to 5,000 cooperative delegates from all over the province will troop to Sagay City on Friday for the Provincial Cooperative Day celebration.

The activity, themed "Cooperative: Our Vehicle for Rural Development", kicks off with a holy Mass celebration at 6:00 A.M.; followed by registration at 7 a.m. at the Sagay City Gym.

A city-wide caravan is set at 8 a.m.; while the Opening Program begins at 9 a.m. Plaques of appreciation and door prizes will be given away.

At noon, activities will be held simultaneously at the Sagay City Gym and Balay Kauswagan Training Center.

A forum on the following topics will be presented by the following government agencies: Coop Accreditation and the Agency's Credit Services - Department of Trade and Industry; Coop Strengthening Programs and other Services - Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP); Taxation Issues on Coops - Bureau of Internal Revenue; Labor Related Issues on Coops - Department of Labor and Employment; Related Issues on Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Coops - Department of Agrarian Reform; and Coop Linkages and Program Thrusts - Negros Occidental Cooperative Development Council.

There will be the turn-over of the "Alab ng Kooperatiba" to the next host and raffle draw of major prizes.

At Balay Kauswagan, issues and concerns will be taken up at the luncheon meeting of cooperative chairs, CDA regional director, keynote speakers, other speakers, and invited guests.

Among them are the bidding for next year's host of the Provincial Cooperative Month Celebration to be presided by the Federation of Cooperatives of Negros Occidental; tax exemption in the Capital Build-up of cooperative members exceeding P15,000; mandatory creation of the Cooperative Development Office in each city or municipality with CDA and LBP as support line agencies.

Other issues are the mandatory allocation of the Cooperative Development Initiative Fund from the 20 percent Development Fund of the Internal Revenue Allotment, resolution urging Congress of the Philippines to empower CDA with Regulatory, Audit and Supervisory functions, and that CDA stops organizing coops but leave the job to accredited non-government organizations.
