Avenido takes over BCPO command
SENIOR Supt. Mario Avenido will be installed Monday as the new Bacolod City Police Office director replacing Senior Supt. George Bajelot.
Among the expected guests in the turnover rites at the Bacolod City Police Office conference hall are Chief Supt. Marcelo Navarro, Jr., regional police director; Senior Supt. Felix Muchada, deputy chief for Administration of Police Regional Office 6 based in Camp Martin Delgado, Iloilo City; Senior Supt. Vicente Ponteras, Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office director; and Mayor Luzviminda Valdez.
Avenido, former chief of the National Maritime Group in Camp Crame, Quezon City was chosen by Valdez from among the five nominees for the BCPO directorship.
The new BCPO director was born Nov. 18, 1957 in Bais City, Negros Oriental. He finished his elementary education in Dumaguete West City Elementary School in 1970 and took his secondary education in Negros Oriental High School and graduated in 1974.
Avenido studied at the Silliman University before he proceeded to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).
Among his past assignments were: Junior Officer/Executive Officer in 541 Philippine Constabulary Ranger Company, 54th PCR Branch; Assistant Director for Operations-Traffic Management Group in October 2002; Assistant Director for Investigation-Maritime Group in June 2003; Assistant Director for Operations-Maritime Group and later appointed as Chief Directorial Staff of Maritime Group in July 2003.

Avenido was awarded as Junior Officer of the Year, Cotabato PC/INP Command in Aug. 8, 1988; Award of the AFP Combat Badge, Sept. 29, 1989; Award of the Military Civic Action Medal, Sept. 30, 1990; Medalya Ng Kadakilaan, Sept. 27, 1991; Medalya Ng Papuri, Feb. 10, 1994; TMG Administrative Officer of the Year 1999, Dec. 6, 199; Medalya Ng Kasanayan, Oct. 2, 2000; and TMG Senior Officer of the Year 2001, December 2001, among others.
