Bacoleño-Manileño tandem shares lead in Pro-Am tourney By Jerome S. Galunan, Jr.
* JR and Gerald hit two easy shots in the birdies in the last four holes of the match for the breakdown
TWENTY-two-year-old Bacoleño swingman JR Tanpinco and compatriot Gerald Cantada ascended in the match following an unsatisfactory take-off to share lead with the Ruel Bañares-Marvin Dumandan duo in the opener of the ongoing 1.2 million U-Bix National Pro-Am held at the Langer course of the Riviera Golf and Country Club.
JR and Gerald hit two easy shots in the birdies in the last four holes of the match for the breakdown.
Though lacking in usual routine, Cantada was confident battling against the other pros, while JR, who should have formed an axis with Gerald last year, proved his worth as a pro.
Meanwhile, Dumandan took the advantage of playing in his homecourt to aid his compatriot, Ruel, and obtain the stem of the race.
Defending champion Miñoza brothers, Raul and Paul, on the other hand, notched at five strokes behind the lead.
