Bagoeño paddlers earn top honors in tablenet tourney
By Jerome S. Galunan, Jr.

OUR Lady of Pilar Academy mainstays Jee-Ann Prado and Meryll Rojo grabbed the runner-up titles of the girls' 17-Under and 12-Under categories after losing to their Subic and Silay counterparts, respectively, in the just-concluded 3rd Lopue's-Butterfly National Age-Group and Team Championships held at the San Sebastian Annex Building in Bacolod City.

Prado and Rojo, former Batang Pinoy campaigners, also finished runners-up in the Area IV tournament losing to their La Carlota rivals.

"The game was tough especially battling against the top-ranked players in the country," said Brian Martir, member of the coaching staff of Bago City Table Tennis team.

Martir added that though they finished as runners-up, they felt happy because his players received offers from top colleges and universities in the country to play in their schools.

The team said their main objective was to expose the young tablenet specialists to higher competitions and develop their potentials in the sports discipline.

"We don't expect to win the tournament (Lopue's tilt) but we want to expose the kids to higher competition," a delegation head said.

"Our participation is to prepare the young players to future events," he added.
