JR-Gerald duo bag U-Bix golf tourney crown
BACOLOD-based JR Tanpinco with partner Gerard Cantada of Manila bagged the U-Bix National Pro-Am golf championship over the weekend at the Langer course of the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite.
Twenty-year-old Tanpinco should have brought them the victory had he not missed the four-footer strike in the regulation.
The run-out gave the duo the uncomfortable matching of the Bañares-Dumandan tandem.
However, Cantada made a perfect drive in the last 18th hole to clinch their first championship crown after they started as buddy in the amateur.
The two should have formed axis last year but were not able to prove their worth as pros when they grabbed the plum.
Cantada received the prize worth P165,840 while Tanpinco pocketed P41,000.
Defending champion Raul and Paul Miñoza, on the other hand, ended fourth in the tournament.
The event was bankrolled by U-Bix Konica Digital Copiers, Epson Printers, U-Bix Reso Digital Duplicators, S-Yard, Bravo Golf, Pivo Praha, Grappa's Cafe Appassionato, Nike Golf (Pacsports), DHL Worldwide Express, Airlift Asia, Esapsa, Pagcor, PNOC, Toyota Motors, San Miguel Corp. and Petron Corp.
