Drivers call anew for fare hike
By Christine Mae A. Pelayo

NOT AGAIN.

The United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (Undoc) will hold a forum to protest the latest round of oil price increases at the Liga ng mga Barangay Hall Friday.

Undoc will also reiterate its protest against the Oil Deregulation Law.

Jessie Ortega, Undoc secretary general told Sun.Star Bacolod that they will invite Gov. Joseph Maraņon, Mayor Luzviminda Valdez, Councilor Greg Gasataya, Board Member Rey Depasucat and Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board Regional Director Porfirio Clavel to join the forum.

Ortega said they will also reiterate their call for the P1 fare increase following the series of oil price hikes.

Major oil companies - Caltex Philippines Inc., Petron Corp, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Inc., Eastern Petroleum Corp., Flying V and Unioil Philippines Petroleum Corp - raised the prices of gasoline by 30 centavos per liter last Tuesday, the second oil price hike this month.

Earlier, Undoc also cried foul over the series of oil price increases imposed by major oil companies in the country.

Pilipinas Shell and Petron Corp. announced that effective midnight last Nov. 4, prices of their gasoline, diesel and kerosene increased by 40 centavos per liter while liquefied petroleum gas increased by P1 per kilogram.

"This is too much, this is evil and this will only transform the lives of our people into a state of total poverty and misery," said Undoc, in its press statement.

It noted: "Days before the new hike in prices of petroleum products, Undoc was planning to submit their petition for a P1 fare increase because of deplorable hardships by drivers who only make a take home earning of P50 to P66 at the most per 12-hour work everyday."

Undoc also slammed the government's deregulation of the country's oil industry as the root of all the endless impositions by oil cartels.

"This government and oil companies are truly heartless and evil," Undoc said.

Undoc also disclosed that they will hold massive protest actions against the oil price hikes.
