Cop skips Christmas Day duty; goes dancing, totes gun By Roberto L. Bacasong
WHILE on duty on Christmas Day, a reportedly drunk trooper of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Group, allegedly went to a dance hall with his M-16 armalite rifle service firearm causing fear among the residents.
The incident took place at 10:30 p.m. in San Sebastian-Lirio streets, Barangay 30, Bacolod City.
SPO 1 Pedrito Lupo of the PMG was disarmed and detained at Police Station 6 when the village tanods of Barangays 30 and 33 sought police assistance.
Investigation disclosed that Lupo asked permission from his team leader, SPO4 Walter Nepomuceno, to allow him to take supper in his home. Lupo promised to go back after an hour.
However, investigation added, the policeman proceeded to the dance hall, drank, and danced, brandishing his M-16 service firearm. Lupo was wearing his Urban Fatigue uniform.
This prompted barangay councilmen George Adiva and Karen Pineda to seek help from Police Station 6, led by station commander Insp. Bonifer Gotas.
Gotas disarmed Lupo who was aboard his motorcycle at 11:10 p.m. Lupo gave himself up to the operatives. Gotas with SPO1 Mario Alisbo confiscated the suspect-policeman's firearm.
Senior Insp. William Seņoron, group director of the Provincial Mobile Group and action officer of Task Force Ilahas, said Lupo is not a member of the Task Force Ilahas.
Senior Supt. Vicente Ponteras, provincial police director, ordered Seņoron to investigate the case.
Seņoron encouraged the residents of Barangays 30 and 33 to file necessary complaints against Lupo.
He added that Lupo will be released from jail when his reglamentary period lapses.
Seņoron further said his office will entertain complainants believing that the suspect committed administrative lapses.
