NPA-RPA encounter in Talisay By Claudine C. Dumalag
A CHANCE encounter reportedly ensued between members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) and New People's Army (NPA) rebels Thursday evening in Hda. Alasigan, Barangay Dos Hermanas, Talisay City.
The RPA-ABB members, headed by their area commander "Ka" Maitan, told Army troopers that a five-second gunfire took place between their group and a team of fully-armed NPA guerillas clad in military uniforms while the RPA-ABBs were conducting foot patrol operations in the area around 10 p.m.
The RPA-ABB area commander disclosed that the NPA rebels immediately fled after the short exchange of gunfire. No casualties on both camps were reported.
Reports disclosed that the band of NPA rebels were allegedly conducting extortion activities in the area.
Chief Insp. Jerry Bartolome, city police chief, said a witness, whose name is being withheld, told them that he was 100 meters away from the site of the encounter when he heard five consecutive shots of a high powered firearm.
The witness said he also heard instructions from both camps not to shout.
Together with some members of the 6th Regional Mobile Group, Bartolome and his team conducted hot pursuit operations and investigated on the encounter for two hours.
Bartolome, however, revealed they recovered nothing from the site of encounter, not even empty shells or slugs from firearms or bloodstains in the ground.
