Contingency plan readied for peaceful polls: Ebdane

PNP Chief Director General Hermogenes Ebdane disclosed that the police hierarchy prepared contingency plans to maintain peace and order in the forthcoming May 10 elections.

Ebdane, who graced the inauguration and blessing of the newly built Escalante City police station building in Escalante last Saturday, said they improved their operations based on data they gathered in the previous polls.

Ebdane also said based on their initial assessment, areas in the country that need to look into are Cagayan, Abra, Ilocos Sur and Maguindanao, among others.

Ebdane also appealed to political candidates to refrain from paying the New People's Army's (NPA) permit to campaign fees.

"The demand itself is illegal, it is tantamount to robbery," said Ebdane.

He said political rivalries between the candidates cannot be avoided.

Ebdane also appealed to the public to work closely with police to prevent violence during the elections. CMAP/RLB
