I'm getting poorer and poorer: Dongail By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
"I'M getting poorer and poorer now," disclosed controversial Senior Insp. Clarence Dongail Friday night.
Dongail said he believed that with the strings of cases filed against him in relation to the celebrated Salabas-Lomuljo-Suganob kidnap-slay case, he would survive.
"Alam ko na ma-aabswelto ako sa mga kaso ko dahil alam ko na wala akong kasalanan (I believe I will be exonerated of the charges because I am innocent)," said Dongail.
But he is getting to be financially drained.
"Lahat na lang ng suweldo ko halos napupunta na sa pambayad ng abogado ko (A big chunk of my salary goes to my lawyers)," he added.
Dongail, a known drug buster in Bacolod, has been tagged as the mastermind in the abduction and killing of former Pahanocy village chief Eleuterio "Dodong" Salabas, his nephew Maximo Lomuljo, and 2nd Mate Ricardo Suganob, a Maritime instructor from Cagayan de Oro City August 31 last year.
Judge Hector Barillo of the Guihulngan Municipal Trial Court dismissed the charges against him for multiple kidnapping with murder, along with that against Casino financier Emmanuel "Manolo" Escalante, an alias Dodong and eight other John Does.
The case before Bacolod prosecutor Rossana Saril-Toledano was also dismissed October 24 last year.
But the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for the Military based in Quezon City, however, sought his indictment in the two counts of murder in relation to the killing of Lomuljo and Suganob.
The Ombudsman for the Military based its recommendation on the testimony of lone witness Luisito "Loui" Gersaniba, now under the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) who positively identified Dongail and alias Dodong as those with them during the abduction and killing of the three victims.
Dongail is also facing administrative charges for grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer before the Ombudsman for the Military.
The same charges were also filed by the families of the victims before the National Police Commission (Napolcom) against him, Supt. Vicente Ponteras, provincial police director and former Bacolod Police chief Supt. George Bajelot.
The Negros Oriental Prosecutor's Office in Dumaguete City also reopened the case of kidnapping and murder against Dongail, et al. Preliminary investigation is set on Friday, March 5.
But Dongail said he hasn't received yet any subpoena on this particular court proceeding.
Dongail's lead legal counsel is Ernesto Treyes Jr.
