Politics blamed for WVRAA 2004 woes By Fernelle C. Rodriguez
FINGERS were pointed at the political strife hounding host Antique's failure to provide first-class sports materials for the ongoing Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet.
The non-completion of several sports venues caused by the Provincial Board's failure to approve the P10 million allocated fund for the sports structures to be used in the games, primarily for the tracks and the completion of the swimming pool at the Binirayan Sports Complex, is being blamed for the fiasco.
Antique Governor Salvacion Perez submitted the budget for the projects; however, she said this was snubbed by the PB, reports disclosed.
The Binirayan Sports Complex tracks should have been rubberized to conform to the records established last year where the same tracks material was used.
The rubber material was not installed because of budgetary deficit. The Binirayan Sport Complex tracks are made of cinder. Athletes were made to compete in another venue, at St. Anthony's School, with the hope that the rubber material would be installed within the week before the hostilities end.
Governor Perez promised to complete other sports structures not only for the meet but also for the local athletes who will compete in the arena.
