Guv to DOTC: Will airport push through or not?
By Avelyn Z. Agudon

ADVISE us if the airport of international standard in Silay City will push through or not, said Gov. Joseph Marañon to the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC).

“I think it is their obligation to buy the land before constructing the airport,” said Marañon after the DOTC reportedly kept on informing him that the new international-standard Bacolod Airport is on track but still they failed to settle the payment for the landowners.

He disclosed the construction of the diversion road is still ongoing but the land is not yet owned by the government.

“Why construct the road if we don't own the land yet?” the governor said.

Transportation Sec. Leandro Mendoza earlier said the bidding process for the Silay airport to determine the winning bidder will be done within the first quarter of the year.

He even denied the construction was delayed after the fund was realigned to pay their debt to the Australian government.

He explained the fund for the construction of the airport is a different loan package from that with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
