Army to NPAs: Reflect on Lent
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan and Christine Mae A. Pelayo

THIS Holy Week, the Army in Negros Island under the 303rd Infantry Brigade will be on alert level 2, disclosed Maj. Gulliver "Gambit" Señeres, brigade spokesman.

"No lowering of guards, no complacency, always on alert against any possible terror acts to be launched by the New People's Army," stressed Señeres.

He, however, said that Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sodusta, 303rd brigade commander, urged all the NPAs in Negros Island to be with their families and reflect on the passion of Christ.

Señeres also told the NPAs, quoting the statement of Sodusta: "Let's celebrate the Lenten Season with our loved ones and with the real essence of sacrifice just like what Jesus Christ did."

Despite this appeal, the Army will still continue implementing measures and maintain the alert level 2 to prevent the NPAs from taking advantage of the holidays by conducting terror acts, Señeres also said.

"We are always ready and would preempt any of the NPA's plan to disturb peace and order in Negros," added Señeres.

In Bacolod City, it's also all set for the Semana Santa celebration.

Executive Assistant Eduardo Argel, cluster head on traffic, disclosed that the city government deployed some personnel of the law enforcement agencies to ensure peace and order and safety of commuters.

Argel added that traffic enforcers will augment the Bacolod City Police Office to protect the commuters and to regulate the traffic in various strategic areas in the city.

He added that security measures have been in place for the holding of processions of various churches on April 9.

Argel further said that they will also augment the traffic personnel in terminals to maintain a smooth flow of traffic.

He said they are anticipating a large number of commuters to go home to their respective towns, municipalities and cities outside Bacolod.

But he assured Bacolodnons and commuters that there will be enforcers to secure and control traffic in bus and jeepney terminals.

Earlier, the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) reactivated the province-wide Oplan Semana Santa and Oplan Summer Holiday until the end of May.

NOPPO beefed up visibility in their respective areas of responsibility.
