Police probers eye 'inside job' in San Carlos heist
CASE probers are eyeing the possibility of an "inside job" in the P3.2 million robbery of three employees of Gaisano San Carlos City Monday morning along CL Ledesma Avenue, in San Carlos.
Senior Supt. Vicente Ponteras, head of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, disclosed that the four unidentified suspects must have known the movement of the victims.
Ponteras said it appears there was coordination between the suspects and the victims who were robbed at 10:30 a.m.
The personnel of the store gave the robbers opportunity to cart away P3.2 million which is a very huge amount of money. They should have security escorts with them, Ponteras said.
The Gaisano employees were identified as Alvin Calvo, Gaisano Store Operation Manager; Marissa de la Torre, bill cashier; and Karen Ang, treasury in-charge.
The victims were on their way to a bank in San Carlos and were on board a Pajero vehicle when the suspects, armed with .45 caliber pistols, blocked their way and declared the heist.
Investigation further showed that the victims were on their way to deposit the P3.2 million cash money to PCI Bank without any security escort.
The suspects held hostage Calvo's two female companions, although they left the two and the vehicle somewhere in Calatrava town.
The victims told investigators that the suspects identified themselves as members of a rebel movement.
The suspects reportedly fled on foot, passing through the mountainous area in Calatrava.
Ponteras said he already directed joint operatives of the San Carlos City, Calatrava town, and Don Salvador Benedicto town police stations to conduct a massive manhunt for the four suspects.
Ponteras also directed Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, San Carlos police chief, to investigate the store employees to determine whether one of them had involvement in the heist.
Intensified checkpoints in northern Negros Occidental were also launched to arrest the suspects.
Teams of policemen were also deployed in the shorelines of the province, added Ponteras.
The management of Gaisano, meanwhile, offered P100,000 cash reward to any person who could give information leading to the arrest of the suspects. CCD
