Socialized housing proposed in Singcang By Christine Mae A. Pelayo
THE City Council proposed a resolution requesting the assistance of Environment Secretary Elisea Gozun and former chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Michael Defensor for the issuance of a Presidential Proclamation reserving parcels of land in Bacolod City for the development of a socialized housing site.
The report came as Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella disclosed that about 52 squatter families displaced in Barangay 4 will soon be relocated in Barangay Cabug under the project coordinated with the National Housing Authority and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The proposed socialized housing site will be located in Purok 3 and 4, and Punta Magsungay, in Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Vice Mayor Ramiro Garcia earlier said he has been helping the families in the two puroks to own lands.
Mayor Luzviminda Valdez earlier disclosed that about 1,100 squatter families in Bacolod would own lands soon following the City Government's granting of the certificate of awards to the squatter families.
Valdez revealed the 620 families in the three puroks in Barangay Banago; 54 families in Purok Sisi, Barangay Singcang-Airport; and 430 families in Villa Esperanza will benefit from the giving of the certificate of award.
Valdez added that the city is just awaiting Guzon's approval on the matter.
Resettlement
On the other hand, Barangay Captain Freddie Vargas Jr. of Barangay 4 confirmed the resettlement of the squatters who used to occupy a private property owned by the Villanueva family.
Puentevella said Felix Silva, provincial manager of the National Housing Authority, is spearheading the survey activity to complete the final list of households.
Vargas said that many of those who were rendered homeless after the demolition are either renting houses in the same barangay or are staying with their relatives.
Rene Serna, assistant district engineer of the Department of Public Ways and Highways, said the resettlement of Barangay Cabug may still accommodate 84 families.
