Super typhoon heads to RP By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
IT MAY be a "Black Saturday" in Negros Occidental as the province expects to be hit by a super typhoon.
Benjie Ballesteros, staffmember of the Provincial Disaster Management Team (PDMT), Tuesday disclosed that a super typhoon is coming in the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday.
Although, PDMT is not certain the typhoon would also hit the Visayas or Negros Island, Ballesteros said public preparedness is vital.
The super typhoon, which has no name yet, has been spotted in the Caroline island of Micronesia, Palau in the eastern part of Mindanao, the PDMT report revealed.
This will be the third typhoon to enter the country this year, Ballesteros said.
He added that rescue units in towns and cities in the province are on 24-hour alert. He said PDMT is ready for emergency measures.
Rescue groups have been dispatched to Mt. Kanlaon to watch out for trekkers. Ballesteros said goods have been sent for rescuers at Kanlaon.
