SIX DAYS before the synchronized national and local elections, President Arroyo on Tuesday found allies in the trisikad and tricycle drivers in nine cities in the country, including Bacolod and Victorias.

In Bacolod City alone, about a thousand trisikad and tricycle drivers expressed their support to Arroyo's candidacy after the latter exempted them from the Clean Air Act.

The drivers roamed around the city and converged at the public plaza in support of Arroyo's presidential bid.

Yves Akol, chairman of Kasangga ni Gloria Movement in Bacolod City, said trisikad and tricycle drivers in Iloilo, Davao, Zamboanga, Metro Manila and Cagayan De Oro also back the President.

Helen Castro, chairman of the Federation of Bacolod Trisikad Operators and Drivers Incorporated, on the other hand, said they believe in Arroyo's leadership.

"We are all supporting her because she is a good leader and pro-poor," Castro added.

Castro said they also wanted to show force for Arroyo to realize how united they are.

"I hope our voice will be heard this time," she added.

Jessie Jesus Garcia, president of the Guardian United Association of Bacolod Incorporated Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association at the Reclamation Area, said that not only tricycle drivers are supporting Arroyo, but also farmers and fishermen.

Garcia also commended Arroyo of the latter's massive drive against illegal drugs.

"I know she is sincere," he said.
