Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella will be among the 18 officials who will accompany 16 local athletes in the coming Olympics on Aug. 13-29.

The 25th Olympic season will be held in Athens, Greece, home of the first Olympic games.

Puentevella is the current chair of the House Committee on Youth and Sports as well as the head of the Bacolod Southeast Asian Games organizing committee.

He is also the current president of the Weightlifting Federation of the Philippines, one of the country's national sports associations, and the Asian Weightlifting Federation.

The 16 athletes who will compete in six sports disciplines are trap shooter Jethro Dionisio and archer Jasmine Figueroa; middleweight Chris Camat, lightwelterweight Romeo Brin, Violito Payla, and Harry Ta¤amor for boxing; Donald Geisler, Tshomlee Go and Toni Rivero for taekwondo; Eduardo Buenavista for marathon and Lerma Bulauitan-Gabito for long jump, both in athletics; Miguel Molina, Miguel Mendoza, Timmy Chua, Jaclyn Pangilinan, and James Bernard Walsh for swimming.

The officials will be led by the president of the Philippine Bowling Congress Steve Hontiveros with Philippine Sports Commission chairman Eric Buhain and Tourism Secretary Robert Pagdanganan.

The delegation will also include a press officer, a doctor, a therapist and the coaches of the competing athletes.

Pagdanganan, who is also the chairman of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committe, said the 2005 SEAGames which will be held in the country was reset to Nov. 27-Dec. 5 due to problems in accommodation.

Reports said the Philippine hosting of the SEAGames will ensue a budget of more than P5 million which will be generated from various government agencies such as the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Department of Budget and Management, Philippine Tourism Authority and Duty Free Philippines.
