Mayor to focus on garbage, lights and traffic woes
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

ASIDE from raising billions of pesos to rebuild Bacolod, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said he will also focus on the city's BLT woes.

BLT stands for basura (garbage), lights and traffic.

Leonardia said one way to improve quality of life in Bacolod is to address and solve the BLT problems.

On basura, Leonardia stressed his immediate plan is to look for a permanent alternative dumpsite to give way for the closure of the Tonggoy dumpsite in Barangay Mandalagan.

However, he said relocating the dumpsite would need authority from the city council.

Vice Mayor Renecito Novero said authorization from the council is good as long as the mayor has already a chosen site.

At present, four areas are being eyed to be made as permanent dumpsite.

These include, according to City Administrator Lorendo Dilag, one from Barangay Cabug, another from Barangay Mansilingan, Barangay Feliza and one in Bago City.

"Negotiation is now underway," Dilag said.

But reports indicated the Cabug Barangay Council already passed a resolution objecting the proposal to transfer the Tonggoy dump site to their barangay.

The mayor is also contemplating to add numbers of street cleaners and garbage collectors including the purchase of additional garbage trucks by next year.

On streetlights, Leonardia said he will solicit from any of the country's senators for funding to install more street lights in the main thoroughfares in the city including the repair of the existing but dilapidated ones.

On traffic, Leonardia appealed for the patience of everybody.

The mayor admitted that traffic mess has become a headache of his administration.

He, however, vowed to correct and systematize everything by early next year.
