Police revises security for festival By Clara Mae Hortelano
POLICE city director Senior Supt. Vicente Ponteras said the city police will revise its existing security plan in preparation for the 19-day 25th Silver MassKara Festival from October 1-19.
Ely Tajanlangit, festival director, laid down the specific festival activities for the celebration during Friday's conference with 10 station commanders of the city police.
Tajanlangit said he briefed the commanders on the day-to-day activities for the festival so that the police will have both the specific and general plan on what security measures they will undertake in every activity.
Ponteras said the celebration will be burdensome to them.
He said Tajanlangit's briefing on them was very useful so that they could be guided on what days would require serious security attention.
"We can now formulate our security plan based on the activities lined up and it will also be our guide to determine how many troops we will be needing," he said.
Ponteras further said their current security is good only for eight to nine days of celebration.
"So with this, we will revise our security days that is good for a 19-day celebration," said Ponteras.
He added that during the festival, there will also be augmentation of forces with personnel of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and the Regional Mobile Group.
