USLS keeps athletics crown

THE University of St. La Salle Stingers once again took home the championship crown in the men's and women's tertiary athletics competed Saturday and Sunday at the Panaad Stadium.

The Stingers retained their crown in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association meet.

The men Stingers garnered 10 gold, five silver and eight bronze medals while the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Bacolod had eight gold, 11 silver and four bronze medals to take the first runner-up slate.

The UNO-R Rams also went home first runner-up last year.

Last year's third runner-up West Negros College toppled 2003 second runner-up John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation. The WNC Mustangs garnered two gold, two silver and two bronze medals to land second runner-up this year while JBLCF had a gold, two silver and two bronze medals to land third runner-up.

Stingers Alexander Celis and Leomar Caritan were the most bemedalled athletes by bagging three gold medals each.

Celis secured golds in 800 meter run (2:09.72), 3,000 steeple chase (10:46.03) and 1,500 meter run (4:20.54), while Caritan took the gold medals in 400 meter (53.69), 4 X100 (45.19) and 4X400 meter run (3:42.31).

Meanwhile, the women Stingers captured 11 gold, three silver and four bronze medals, while the WNC Mustang had seven gold, seven silver and three bronze medals to end first runner-up.

UNO-R Bacolod had two gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, while Riverside Medical College secured a silver and a bronze medal to end up second and third runners-up, respectively.

Stinger Ma. Rosario Barañao went home as the most bemedalled athlete. She bagged gold medals in 100 meter hurdles (17.25), 100 meter dash (13.34), 4X100 meter hurdles and 4X400 meter hurdles and the silver in 400 meter hurdles.

WNC, UNO-R and RC were also first, second and third runners-up last year, respectively.
