City's nursing schools excellent, Ched says
By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan

THE Commission on Higher Education declared that the five nursing schools in Bacolod City are not among the 25 institutions that were ordered closed.

CHED tagged as "excellent" the programs of these Bacolod-based nursing schools, namely, the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, University of St. La Salle, Colegio San Augustin, Riverside College and West Negros College.

According to reports from its national office, CHED disclosed that none of the nursing schools in the entire Western Visayas were included in the list of 24 nursing schools up for closure for the second semester.

CHED's closure order of nursing schools from regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7, among others, was issued after a thorough assessment that these institutions have poor standings.

A check by Sun.Star Bacolod disclosed that in Bacolod, Riverside College had the most number of nursing students in the previous first semester at 5,878.

West Negros College ranked second with 4,500 followed by USLS, 1,888; CSA-B, 1,700; and UNO-R, 800 plus.

The administration of Riverside College and WNC hoped to increase the number of enrollees for the second semester.

At USLS, admission of new students and transferees was stopped for the current semester while CSA-B hoped to increase the number of students.

UNO-R, on the other hand, admitted based on the running turnout of their second semester enrolment, the nursing population might slightly decrease.
