Jaruda gets Basoc post

AS HE celebrated his birthday last Tuesday, Negros Occidental Private School Sports Cultural Educational Association president Fr. Emil Jaruda, OAR was given a "gift" by the Bacolod Southeast Asian Organizing Committee chair Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella - a post in the Basoc.

In a text message to Sun.Star Bacolod, the solon primarily wished that more students-athletes from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, where Jaruda is the vice-president for academics, can join the 2005 Southeast Asian Games for his sake.

The 2005 SEA Games will be hosted by the Philippines where Bacolod City will play as satellite venue for five disciplines, namely, men's and women's indoor volleyball, men's and women's beach volleyball, men's football, men's and women's weightlifting and boxing.

The solon further said Fr. Jaruda will be appointed as one of the officials of Basoc for the games as chair of the volunteers for youth movement in time of the games.

Jaruda, meanwhile, said that he is gladly accepting the post and will do his share according to his capability for the success of the SEA Games.

On the other hand, Philippine Amateur Volleyball Association president Roger Banzuela will be appointed as Executive Committee member which the PAVA
president also readily accepted.

The solon is also the chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sports, and the president of the Weightlifting Federation of the Philippines, one of the National Sports Associations.(FCR)
